PNP AIDG Director General PSSupt. Albert Ferro
Officers of the Philippine National Police Anti-Illegal Drugs Group (PNP-AIDG) admitted being surprised about the sudden disbandment of their unit after some of its men had been involved in the Jee Ick Joo kidnap slay case.
Police Senior Superintendent Albert Ferro, however, said they accept and respect the decision of President Rodrigo Duterte and PNP Chief Police Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa.
Ferro said they believe that the decision was aimed particularly at cleansing their ranks in order to save the image of the PNP.
“Personally I did not expect, but we always expect for the worst… ang wisdom po ng ating Pangulo at wisdom ng ating liderato ay atin pong iginagalang at kung ano man po yun ay sususndin naming,” said PS/Superintendent Ferro.
(Personally I did not expect, but we always expect for the worst. We respect the wisdom of our President and our leadership. Whatever their decision is, we shall follow.)
On the other hand, Ferro says he feels sad for some personnel of the group, formerly known as the Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force (AIDSOTF).
Among its accomplishments since AIDSOTF’s conception in 2003 were:
- the discovery of the Paglansag Antipolo Clandestine Laboratory in 2004;
- the arrest of Jackson Dy drug syndicate members in Parañaque in 2005; the discovery and closure of a shabu tiange in Pasig City in 2006;
- the arrest of the Albert Chin drug syndicate members in Manila in 2013;
- the dismantling of the Sinaloa Mexican drug cartel in Lipa City, Batangas in 2013 and the Abapo drug syndicate in Masbate;
- and, the arrest of Lt. Col. Ferdinand Marcelino and Yan Yi Shou at a clandestine shabu laboratory in Sta. Cruz, Manila in January 2016.
Ferro said scalawag cops have destroyed not only a few policemen but a whole institution.
He said they’re also expecting the reopening of their police unit after the internal cleansing process of the PNP so that they could help in the government’s objective to achieve a drug free Philippines. — Lea Ylagan | UNTV News and Rescue
