MANILA, Philippines—Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar has ordered the initiation of summary dismissal proceedings against a policeman charged with kidnapping in Manila.
In a statement, the PNP said Eleazar directed the Internal Affairs Service to file a criminal complaint against Patrolman Wilfredo Mindanao.
“Apart from the filing of criminal complaints of serious illegal detention and usurpation of authority in the Manila Prosecutor’s Office against the suspects, I have instructed the IAS to initiate summary dismissal proceedings against Mindanao,” Eleazar said.
Mindanao, along with his alleged cohort, Romeo Aday, were arrested after allegedly kidnapping a man whom they claimed to have caught in possession of illegal drugs. Aday, who is reportedly a driver, purportedly introduced himself as an agent of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and claimed that the victim was under arrest for possession of illegal drugs.
The two suspects were arrested by local authorities after receiving a complaint from a vendor who witnessed the supposed abduction.
Eleazar also said that the Manila Police District (MPD) is conducting a deeper probe into the incident.
“We cannot allow these few rogues in the service to destroy the public’s confidence on the PNP now that we have made strides in regaining our kababayan’s trust. I am warning those policemen who will continue to undermine our mandate and erode the institution, you will be caught and made to face the consequences of your wrongful actions,” the PNP chief said.
