MANILA, Philippines – The Manila City government on Monday hailed a police officer who was killed in a shootout with suspected robbers in Sta. Cruz.
In a statement, Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso expressed his sadness over the death of Police Corporal Edgil Bombase, whom he said, died while fulfilling his duty.
“Nakakalungkot na mamatayan ng pulis lalo na at pinagtanggol niya lang ang kanyang sarili at tinupad lang niya ang kanyang tungkulin,” Domagoso said.
Bombase died in a hospital on Sunday, December 15 while undergoing treatment for the gunshot wounds he sustained during the encounter with alleged notorious robbery suspects last December 11.
He was among the police officers who responded to a robbery incident along the PNR railway in Sta. Cruz. Two of the suspects were killed in the shootout.
During Monday’s flag-raising ceremony, Mayor Isko led the offering of one-minute silence for Bombase.
He also announced that the city government has provided P300,000 worth of financial assistance to the bereaved family of Bombase.
“Nalulungkot po tayo at ang sampu ng ating mga kapatid ng pamahalaang Lungsod ay kami po ay nakikidalamhati sa pamilya Bombase,” the mayor said.
