LUCENA CITY, Philippines — Suspected big time Quezon Province drug lord, Cerilo “Athel “ Alcala, who is also the brother of former Department of Agriculture Secreraty Procy Alcala, finally surrendered to Lucena City Police, Sunday afternoon.
This was after a bench warrant of arrest was issued against Alacala for failing to appear at the hearings of drug cases filed against him.
Athel Alcala was accompanied by his brother Quezon 2nd District Congressman Vicente “Kulit” Alcala and his Lucena City mayor nephew, Roderick Alcala.
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) arrested Alcala in an operation at Cotta Lucena City. He was incarcerated in 2008 but was able to walk out of jail after a few years.
According to Congressman Alcala, his brother needs to clear his name from the allegations, and to do that it was necessary to surrender so he could give information in his defense.
“Sapagkat hanggang hindi sila lumulutang,eh walang info na pupwedeng lumabas para ipagtanggol yung sarili nila,” said the congressman.
He added that Athel has been suffering from high fever and was previously confined in a Manila hospital. The suspected drug lord is temporarily back in confinement to recuperate.
Athel’s son, Sajid Alcala is also facing allegations of involvement in illegal drugs. He is currently in the custody of his uncle Congressman Kulit Alcala, where he can easily be summoned by PNP if needed. (JAPHET CABLAIDA/ UNTV News and Rescue)
